The Benefice of Blenheim

Begbroke, Bladon, Shipton, Woodstock & Yarnton

Meet the Rector

It is a real joy to live and work in the benefice of Blenheim as Team Rector, and to have a particular care for Bladon and Woodstock as parish priest.

From 2003-10 I was a Canon Residentiary at Coventry Cathedral. As Precentor I had the brief of looking after the worship and music in the Cathedral, and lots of day to day ministry among our visitors and congregations. A lot of this work has been with students and young people, as well as pastoral care of our choirs, and a great deal of teaching, preaching, and administration.

I loved being at the Cathedral, but my heart is for the work and ministry of parish life. Before Coventry I spent eleven years in parish work in the Diocese of Lichfield: as a Vicar in Walsall and Stafford, and as a Curate in Lichfield. Before that I studied Theology at the University of Durham, and trained for ordained ministry at St Stephen’s House in Oxford.

Megan is also ordained, and has a full-time job being Chaplain of Jesus College, Oxford, work which she combines with research for a DPhil in Biblical Studies. We share many interests, not least music, which is a shared passion for both of us: me as an organist and pianist, Megan as singer, violinist and flautist. We love books, history, architecture, theatre, walking and travelling, in this country and abroad. Then when Megan is busy with the handicrafts and academic work she loves, I hit the squash court with a vengeance – not that you would know from a sideways glance. I recover with a glass of something cold and delicious, and The Times crossword. The Archers is essential listening, and if you ever hear the organ playing on the programme, that means you’re listening to me, as my claim to fame is being Ambridge’s organist.
