ST MARY MAGDALENE CHURCH
REDEVELOPMENT APPEAL
Your Church for the Future
St Mary Magdalene Church needs to carry out essential improvements to its building in order to provide a space better suited to its role in the modern world. The church will be made more accessible for everyone, and more available for optimal use by the whole community. It is open every day; in addition to the routine services currently held, and its use for private prayer, we also have many visitors, host concerts and meetings, have children's activities, and sponsor art and craft fares.
Architects and other professionals have been appointed. We have held open community meetings to preview and discuss our plans. Importantly, the proposed scheme has been approved by the relevant authorities.

Proposed Ground Floor Plan -1 March 2015.pdf
Our Key Plans Include:
Making Step Free Access. The pathway entrance to the porch will be lowered to the level of the porch, and the church floor will be raised to meet that level. Automatic glass entrance doors will be fitted, providing easier acces for wheelcair users and others with mobility concerns.
Improving the Lighting. The existing lighting is inadequate. It does not allow adequate flexibility for all of the different activities that the church has going. We will be redesigning all of the lighting, incorporating the best energy efficient LED systems and controls available.
Making the Church Warmer. We shall be installing an under floor heating system to replace our current hot air system, which is terribly antiquated and inefficient. This will require a new floor to be laid. So, if you are coming for a concert, or visiting us for a service, you will receive both a friendly welcome, and your feet (along with the rest of you) will stay warm!
We are also adding extra toilets, replacing our current pews with more comfortable seating to allow for greater flexibility within the space, and will install a new sound system so that everyone can hear; the latter will include WiFi enabling the latest technology to be used.
All of this will make our church building a better place for everyone currently using it, and will make it more adaptable for all new, additional users.
Finally, we are looking at ways of making the church entrance more obvious, and more attractive and welcoming.
