Memorial to Sir Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Churchill died on January 24th 1965, exactly seventy years to the day after his father, and the funeral service took place in London at St Paul's Cathedral.

It was a very moving occasion, marked with all the splendid panoply of Church and State; it was attended by the Queen together with rulers from all over the world and shared by the whole nation. In contrast to this, the burial here at Bladon was private, as Lady Clementine Churchill wished; it was conducted by the Rector and only relatives and close friends were present. It was Sir Winston's wish to be buried in a corner of this country churchyard, near his birthplace at Blenheim Palace.

Holger Danske Klubben - Official Wreath Laying Ceremony

Each year on May 4th at 8.30 p.m. a wreath is laid at the grave of Sir Winston on behalf of the Danish Resistance Movement Association who fought alongside the British troops throughout the last World War.

This is a very special date and time commemorating the exact moment when Sir Winston gave thanks to all those in the Danish Resistance Movement who through their courage helped bring about the liberation of their country and the end of the war. They, in their turn, commemorate Sir Winston’s inspirational leadership of the free world.
