Welcome to Holy Cross, Shipton-on-Cherwell.

The Church serves a Community of about 450 people in Thrupp and Shipton-on-Cherwell, together with communities at Bunkers Hill and Upper Campsfield.

Our
latest news sheet can be found online.

About

Thrupp is the smaller of the two, comprising about 35 houses, two pubs and a large collection of narrow boats most of which are associated with the Thrupp Canal Cruising Club. Shipton comprises the original Manor House, and a small number of older houses which originally made up the original Village Community. The Community grew substantially in the mid 1950s when a large Council Estate was built. There are no schools in either Shipton or Thrupp, and no local industry of any consequence.
Shipton has a modern Village Hall which is used for a wide variety of events in the Village.

Holy Cross Church is situated in a pleasant rural environment next to the Oxford Canal. The Church was rebuilt in 1831 and is in a good state of repair There is parking for between 10 -15 cars near the Church. Services are held twice a month at 9.30 am. There are no weekday services, and the Church is not regularly used for other events either during the week or at weekends.

We continue to strive to make the Church more integrated with the local community and more successful in persuading local people that the messages of Christianity have a strong relevance to today.

As Holy Cross Church is on the banks of the South Oxford Canal, many walkers enjoy visiting our church and so it is kept open during the week and visitors are welcome.
