Artweeks Festival 2017 Shipton Church Review

From the Friends of Holy Cross Church

The 2017 Artweeks Festival event at Shipton Holy Cross Church (May 13th - 21st) was a great success. Seven artists provided the artistic items for display including paintings, photos, ceramics, wirework, pottery and Icons of the Saints, and jewellery. It was truly a community effort.

Thanks in particular must go to Douglas and Henrietta Reeve who so generously allowed us to use the "Annie's Tea-room" name and reputation for our pop-up cafe by the canal. The fact that Friends of Holy Cross Church were able to raise over £900 is almost entirely due to the fact that the cakes, scones and soup were provided by Annie's at cost, allowing us to make a considerable profit to support the church. Both artists and visitors have given very positive feedback.

Over 800 people visited the church during Artweek, many of whom had connections to the church as well as others who were discovering Holy Cross Church for the first time.

Our thanks are especially due to Anne and Douglas MacDonald who organised the event and to the Wainwrights and Hines for their support too.
